SDCC '08: Has Screen Gems Spoiled Quarantine?
Source: Ryan Rotten
July 28, 2008
Spoiler Warning: The following hints at the conclusion of Screen Gems' upcoming Quarantine.
You've seen the poster. Experienced and examined the trailer. So just how much of Quarantine's finale is being spoiled in Sony's marketing of the picture?
Horror-savvy fiends who have seen the film upon which this remake is based, Rec, are crying foul saying the image of Jennifer Carpenter being dragged into the darkness ruins the end. The Dowdle Bros., those responsible for the American update, disagree.
"No one has seen at the end of our movie," says director John Dowdle during breakfast with Shock over the weekend. "You don't know how we end it. It might be different."
We press them for more details, querying them on rumors of additional shooting that have taken place within the last month. "The film, before the additional shooting, at ten minutes started to get into things," John says. "We felt it would be nice to build a little bit more character time before we crank into it. So we added some more scenes at the fire station, stuff like that."
Drew Dowdle, co-writer and producer on the film, adds those who saw early cuts of the film loved the dynamic between actors Jennifer Carpenter and Jay Hernandez, so more of their interplay was dropped into the film. For more on Quarantine (opening October 10th), read our set report!

I'm the first to cry fowl! But I am curious (and hopeful) that they were smart enough to do a completely different ending for those of us that sought out REC.

the " new " ending probably has jennifer Carpenter turn into an infected creature like the rest of them. big deal , yaaaaawwwnnnn.

How can anyone cry foul? We didn't see an ending and who ****ing cares if she was dragged off into the dark? Anything could have happened after that...It's just like a million other movies out there...The trailer builds suspense and gets you to see it, it doesn't tell the beginning, middle and end...Anyone that cried foul is an idiot for thinking that was the ending..

I disagree, Ryan. Those in holywood responsible for making trailers are doing worse and worse jobs as of late. The fact is that many trailers DO show the middle and ends of the movies. The Matrix trailers showed every bullettime effect shot, you could piece together the entire plot chronology from the Iron Man trailers, the trailer for Hancock totally gave away the plot twist, and the last shot of the Quarantine trailer is the last shot of the movie upon which it is based.
Movie trailers are supposed to entice, not spoil.

For those who saw the original will know the ending was shown but for those who have never seen the movie...I doubt they'd know that was the ending.

I just finished watching REC. It was alright and had that scary atmosphere to it, but it really hurts the eyes watching, mostly every thing in that movie is a blur you cant really see whats going on, Hopefully in this new version they will be able to hold the camera more still so i can actually see whats going on.

joe i agree w/ you. i saw [REC] many months ago and it IS pretty good, but if you have ANY kind of motion sickness or if you thought the Blair Witch or Cloverfield was too shaky, then this isn't for you. i'm talking shaky-cam-o-rama! it actually got a little annoying watching this at times because i couldn't tell what was going on.
