Zombie Says Halloween 2 is Laurie's Movie
January 22, 2009

Tim Sullivan, filmmaker (2001 Maniacs) and good friend of Rob Zombie, caught up to the writer and director Halloween 2 to get a read on what the next chapter in the Myers legacy is about.

Zombie begins by clearing the air on why he's back. Most of it having to do with a want to follow through on the world he created in Halloween. Introductions to the characters were made in that remake and now he's allowed to run with them in any direction he feels like.

He also emphasizes the sequel is not a redo of Rick Rosenthal's film.

Scout Taylor-Compton has not read the script, Zombie says, but it will definitely be her movie. "She's not the happy-go-lucky girl, now she's very f**ked up famous person, trying to make sense of this," he explains. "It takes place over some time, but it starts that night [of the murdes] and then essentially, I mean...the first one, Laurie has no idea what just happened. But then she wakes up the next day and someone's going, 'Oh by the way, your parents are dead. All your friends are dead. And actually, your brother is uh, Charles Manson.' You know? 'How do you feel about that?' See what I mean?"

Zombie seems unsure if Malcolm McDowell will return as Dr. Loomis and adds that he'd rather not have the character at all if the actor doesn't sign to the film. There's more solid reading to be had, so check out Icons of Fright's full interview right here.

Halloween 2 opens in theaters August 28th.

That gives me a little hope. It should follow Laurie more... she should balance out the film and share focus with her brother. If you dont care about her then the whole storyline misses its mark.

i'm happy he will follow a new path!

The first movie was an utter pile of crap. If R.Z. had created a "world" of "characters" worth exploring, then a sequel might be interesting. The first one left me with no burning questions. It left me with a desire to burn all copies of the film.

I super pumped about this movie but what will suck is if michaels dead and laurie goes crazy and she takes up the family tradition.

I was hoping she wouldn't return since she was terrible in the first one, and Danielle Harris would take the lead...

u need to have loomis in this movie the whole point of remaking halloween was cuz the first series was dead there where no characters that any one cared about the series needed loomis back thats y there was a remake and now hes not going to be in it he is what stands between mike and lure he is the knight in shining armor u have to have the character in the movie i say pay him what he wants or get some one who can act better or as good as him and wasnt he signed to do 3 or 4 halloweens what gives... i say zombie if you have to get down and suck is c$%k if u have to but u need him in the film. loomis is my fave character next to mike when i heard the about the remake i said to myself yes! finlly loomis is back, and now he mite not be in it i mite not have a reason to see this movie.

i think the film is heading into the right direction. I mean the thing ended as the 1st chainsaw. So now is up to see if little sister will survive, or just coco for her coco puff, bloody ones.

Scout wasen't even really in the first one so I don't know how people found her soooo terrible at acting, the girl really didn't get to show us her chops. As everyone have said, his first halloween just focused TOO much on backstory. Now that we have Michael's story covered we can now focus on Laurie. I get a sense that this film will feel very "mature" and shed its grindhouse skin.

The first movie wasted my time. And Now This! Wow Hollywood.....Get your acto together and stop doing it for the money.

*sigh* ...sounds lame

Smell that? That's the smell of the movie being only about her and Michael only appearing in flashbacks or as an illusion in her now-crazy mind.

I hope I didn't hit the nail on the head.

come on give us some really good creature features and monster flicks like wolfman, creature from the black lagoon,a reboot to resident evil more like the first game,a prequel to king kong, something like anaconda, deep blue sea, rogue, meg, splice, steve aldens the loch, hybrid. there are so many stories that could be told and done great but instead people keep makeing ghost stories, and slasher flicks.

even a redo of the island of dr. moreau could be better now we have inproved the cg ,and real effects.

I'm sorry guys but Zombie's version is great. It's no comparison to Carpenters (and Zombie wanted that way...) but I really enjoyed it.

The direction the next one is heading sounds awesome. Laurie's gonna be one messed up kid now.

If Michael Myers is not in Halloween 2 at all, well this movie sounds good.

I will ****in snap if that's what happens in the sequel.

It worked for My Bloody Valentine 3D, don't do it for this.

i like both carpenters and zombies versions of halloween. i do like the original better, but that's because i seen it first, and grew up with the fanchise. that's not bashing zombies version in any way, because it was killer too! zombie did great with the first film ( as well as all his flix ), so i have great confidence in the second film.

Yes!!!!! Danielle Harris is back again for H2! w00t! I sure hope Rob will remake H3! If you think this gonna "suck" then you're a idiot :)

Loomis should definitely be in the next one. We all love Mike, but it's not a Halloween movie without Dr.Loomis, unless we're talking about a sequel much later in the series when Laurie is older. I hated R.Z.'s first movie for a long time, but I really like it now. He took the movie in a realistic direction which works a lot better in my opinion. He made a horror movie about a monster you just can't kill into a horror movie about something that could actually happen. Sounds to me like he's trying to continue the series in that same vein, and that's great for me. Of course Laurie should be f***ed up and famous. That's how it really would be. And I'm really curious to see how she reacts and how she deals knowing everyone close to her is dead now.

One There was one friend of hers alive. plus i love to see dr.loomis come back. i think the guy that played Dr.loomis was a great actor in the first one. so I love to see him in the next one. who agrees? one more comment I love to make. I love the special features one the first on espeically the outtakes. is brad returning?

I smell a rip-off...read the "First Death of Laurie Strode," the comic that recently hit the shelves in a comic store near you. It fills in the gap between Halloween 2 and the films that followed "Season of the Witch." It too is a close look at the reaction that Laurie had to her brother being a serial killer/slasher, and was among the best horror titles, along with "Halloween:Nightdance," to come out in 2008. I don't think the ideas presented in "TFDOLS" would be better served if they had Zombie's trailer-park-trash-nightmare-sensiblities superimposed over them. In my humble opinion that veneer is too thin and cliche to be effective.

I absolutely hated Rob Zombie's first "Halloween"... it ruined everything great about the original. This sequel better be good, or else there just shouldn't be any Michael Myers movies in a while.

Posted by: CCR on January 24, 2009 at 12:09:59

the first one should've been strictly a prequel IMO, and zombie needs to stop using the same actors...can't tell u how much noticing every actor he's ever used b4 popping up really detracted from just enjoying the movie..and GIVE UP THE TRAILER TRASH!!! just becoz it worked 4 devil's rejects doesn't mean it should be used in all your movies, ESPECIALLY halloween!!..it could have been a masterpiece w/o these significant flaws... hope this 'new direction' zombie's taking turns into something solid.......and scout's acting was terrible....let danielle harris take over plz
