Zombie: Tyrannosaurus Rex's Future Uncertain

When ShockTillYouDrop.com visited the set of Rob Zombie's
H2 (
Halloween 2) last month, Andy Gould - Zombie's manager and producer -
offered a glimmer of hope regarding
Tyrannosaurus Rex. The project, a violent '70s-esque thriller about a boxer, had broken free of Dimension Films and was being courted by another studio. Zombie tells us this week, however, that he's not sure if it will be his next film.
"I would love to make that movie next - it may be, it may not be. I don't know yet," he said on break from editing his latest outing with Michael Myers.
"It's sort of hanging out there. It seems like, every year, it gets harder and harder to get a movie made. Even if you're following up a hit, the studios - I don't know if it's the economy - but trying to get them to greenlight and loosen up the money is a f**kin' nightmare. If you look at the movies being made, nobody wants to make anything that's different. They just want sequels, remakes, things based on pre-existing comics. It's f**kin' hard. I got offered nine million horror remakes the last year, many of them have been made but they all crossed my desk. There's no original material being made."
Of course, the writer-director says this completely cognizant of the fact that he's at work on a sequel to a remake. We'll have more with Zombie soon.

I have a feeling that with "Tyrannosaurus Rex" I will be able to go back to being a Rob Zombie fan the way I was after "Devil's Rejects" kicked my ass. So I definitely hope he can get it made as his next movie.

Well zombie you just nailed it in the head! "If you look at the movies being made, nobody wants to make anything that's different"
"There's no original material being made." Please Mr.Zombie I have always been a huge fan of your music. after halloween 2 cut away from the halloween movies you made your mark and now start working on original movies such as tyrannosaurus rex we don't need no more halloween remakes.

He's nothing if not a realist. He gets how things work. Yet people still brand him as a hack. Pfft.
I hope T-Rex gets made as well. As much as I've enjoyed his work on Halloween, I'm anxious to see some more original work as well.

you'd think a "genius" like rob zombie would dodge a question like this while he's taking a break from ****ing up yet another halloween movie, but then he has the gall to complain about the "studios"(to let you know how real and independent he is) only wanting to do remakes or sequels, based on comics etc. but he's responding to this question about his movie(that had a comic book feel to the poster) FROM THE SET OF A SEQUEL TO A REMAKE. He needs to take his ***** wife, and revolving door of ****ty actor friends and just disappear.

Wow, party in my hand, not only is your comment stupid but so is your name. You are pretty thorough if anything.
Another person with reading comprehension skills going awry. If you read his article that's exactly his point but...BUT...nobody will pay for anything original so he's doing what is offered - not all of it - so that maybe one day they'll return the favor and grant him money to do the original movies that he wants. Damn, I don't know if you're a numbskull or a knucklehead.

I'm not exactly an expert at what directors and film makers go through, but don't they have to get some kind of permission from the studios to get a movie going.Ain't they the ones with the money.
If something like that is the case, then maybe Zombie did not have a choice in the matter if sequels and remakes is all they are wanting to do.It makes since.Everybody has a boss, even Zombie and the mans got to make a living somehow.
Either way,I don't think T-Rex is going to be completely shelved.I figure it will be done sometime after he is done with Halloween.
Not to mention the fact that Zombie loves ****ing with people, especially ones that use the name "party in my hand"I think this entire interveiw was directed completly at "party in my hand"HA
And if anyone *****es about my grammer or punctuation.I had some dumb ass teachers, that's all.HA

wow he just said what ALOT of people have been thinkin lately
i agree with zombie 100%
nobody wants to be original no more
but whatever i guess thats Hollywood =/

Ok... until this is made I will trash everything Zombie does. Hey isn't T-Rex based on a comic book?
Posted by: Movie_Jamie on May 7, 2009 at 17:35:48
It sounds like everyone who's anyone in the horror community wants Zombie to consider directing their movies, all be it remakes and sequals. No matter what individual opinions are, it's clear that he's a huge draw for the studios...they're looking at facts and figures and there's few, if any, active horror directors at his level.
party in my hand, you seriously detract from these boards. Personally I can't stand it when you post.

i have to agree that we need something original. all there has been is crap, asian remake crap, classic remake crap, sequel crap. oh boy now i have to take a crap. what was the last good original movie anyone has seen in the last couple years? i would rather watch the goosebump movies with my kids then the so called real horror movies being put out now.

I find your insults to be just a funny as rob zombies movies. They all were unfunny, unwatchable with the worst dialog since all of you hacks started posting.Rob,go back to making terrible music and leave the movies to the pros
Posted by: Logan on May 7, 2009 at 19:03:33
And why don't you go back to partying with your hand and your little friend and leave these posting boards to the pros.If you do decide to give your arm a rest and feel like typing something a little more intelligent, than do so.Until then,as Charlie Murphy would put it,Shut The **** Up.

i'm not a Zombie fan (i liked much of H1 but not his other films or music) but i completely understand where he's coming from. actually it's nice to hear some honest talk from someone IN the business and not us either praising or complaining about remakes/the business. he's being a realist. if he wants the work, he takes what comes his way. i don't blame in a bit.

I think once H2 makes the rounds, a studio will let him make something he wants to do.
They need to see the money come in, to know they can have any hope of something "different" coming from him at this time in the market.
It will happen.

Directors are paid to make films, they have great control over what they are doing but the producers and studios control the money. Most of the time they also get the say on a final cut of a film. then there is distrbution and marketing. Think of it this way, way back in the day, Seven Spielberg was almost fired from Jaws. He really put a scare into them going over budget and time alotted to make it. He didnt get fired and Jaws was the first movie to make over 100 million, so I'm sure if Rob Zombie keeps making movies that make money he will get to do T-Rex.

party in my hand suggests Mr. Zombie should leave filmmaking to "the pros". With 4 films to his credit, the writer-director is very much in demand. Wonder when he will turn pro? Self-abuse may not make you blind, but it appears to make you stupid.
Posted by: Dutch on May 7, 2009 at 23:29:57
By the way, some self-styled "a sshole", who seems pleased with his limited intelligence, wonders if T. Rex isn't based on a comic book. No, it isn't. Keep on trashin'; don't be hampered by thought.
Posted by: francesco on May 8, 2009 at 03:04:10
Poor Zombie! So he'll do next an H3 too.
Posted by: Calum on May 8, 2009 at 03:20:41
I support you Zob.
GET T-REX MADE MOTHER****ERS!
Posted by: party in my hand on May 8, 2009 at 11:04:24
four movies does not make you a "pro" by any means (uwe bowel?)Logan,I can type and play better than you can come up with your half ass "comeback" any day so please don't put your name with "pro talkbackers".say something intelligent? To who, you?Okay, rob may have capture the feel of the grindhouse experience in some of his early movies but his take on halloween was by far the second worst film since house of a thousand corpses. The film turned evil into a abused redneck.not what john carpenter had in mind when he did the original. You see logan, all that with one hand partying.

That was an example of intelligence?

Personally, I think it's completely retarded that a studio would only want to do remakes/reboots instead of put films out there that have a new, fresh idea. These nitwits have to realize that people are getting pi$$ed off when all of their favorite movies are getting ripped off or remade. IMO, if it's a remake, it's not a true work of art like the original (and I don't care what genre the movie is in). Remakes are just ways for people to be lazy and crank out a film for some quick cash.
Seems like ever since that writer's strike, we've been getting nothing but remakes/reboots. Was not having to come up with any new original ideas part of their agreement?? I mean, what the hell! What self respecting writer would just want to hash out a tweaked version of something that has been done before anyway?! Same for a director!
Zombie needs to get Tyrannosaurus Rex done after H2. Somebody will finance it. Hell, I'm sure Zombie has the money, why not just start his own film production company and he can finance the movie all on his own! If a studio is too scared to do something original, pay for it yourself, flip ‘em off and make them sorry when the movie turns a profit. I'm sure Tyrannosaurus Rex will have a really small budget anyway. All the same people appear in Rob’s movies. They're pretty much friends of his, so I'm sure they take a paycut to work with Rob.

Well, party in my hand,I stand corrected. You do seem to have some intelligence to you. That last comment that you posted actually had some kind of meaning to it.You post like that and you'll be alright.Just don't come on here posting stupid ****.
Now as far as the movie goes, you had mentioned that he was a abused redneck that turned evil.No rednecks made him evil,he already had it in him.He cut up his pet rat with a scapel, this shows that there was a hint of evil already in his head. The abusiveness just helped bring that evil out in a much bigger and broader way.The boy just decided to take that evil and let it help him get revenge on those that treated him poorly. If he was completly evil,he would have went ahead and killed baby Laurie and waited for his mamma to get get home and done her in too.
You want to talk about evil rednecks, that is what Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wrong Turn and House of 1000 corpses is about. Not Halloween, the only one that is technically considered a redneck was Ronnie and he was just some broke down bastard. As far as all the cursing goes, try hanging out with a black family.I've got some black friends that make the beginning of Halloween seem like a church social.
And as far as half ass comebacks,I only do that when I want to.

Relative intelligence. Perhaps "party" is smart for his neck of the woods. But he doesn't need us to point out any intellectual impairement on his behalf, every word he types does that for us. We really just need to sit back and chuckle. Few things are funnier than people who think they know what they're talking about. Party isn't a hater - he's a troll. Best way to get rid of them is to ignore them, and few have proven themselves so worthy of that fate as he has.
In the end, of course, it does not matter what John Carpenter had in mind when he made the original, since this is not the original but a remake. For the tenth time this week, I refer all interested parties to the futility of a shot-for-shot remake as demonstrated by the remake of Psycho. Carpenter himself encouraged Zombie to do something new and different. "Make it yours," is the quote as I recall it. And Rob did exactly that.
Carpenter gets why the remake happened. Why? Because he's a damn fine director who understands the business. The fact that he encouraged Rob can and does nullify any counter-point that suggests Rob's film is nothing like Carpenter's. Of course it isn't. It shouldn't be.
Last time I checked, hillbilly's/redneck's lived out in the middle of nowhere in the country, not in a pleasant suburb surrounded by other people. White trash may be a more appropriate description, except that the only one who actually fits that mold is Ronnie White. (Perhaps Rob gave him that last name as a subtle suggestion.) Poor white folk do not equal white trash.
But I digress; I'm sure T-Rex will get made eventually, even if it's not until the economy recovers a bit.
