UPDATED: Child's Play Remake in the Works

While many of producer David Kirschner's recent movies with his partner Corey Siniega, such as the biopic Miss Potter and the upcoming Martian Child, might not necessarily be "Shock-worthy", Kirschner's second film, Child's Play roughly twenty years ago kicked off a popular horror franchise that has inspired many imitations and four sequels.

ShockTillYouDrop.com had a chance to interview Kirschner for his upcoming movie where he surprised us by announcing that they were working on another "Chucky" movie, which would be a remake of the original Child's Play. (But surely, we all knew this was coming, right?)

"We're discussing it with Don Mancini, who has written all of them with us from the beginning," Kirschner told us. "The next one we're going to do is we're going back and remaking the first one and even pushing it further and making a very terrifying version of the first one, which is pretty scary as it is."

UPDATE: A bit of a misunderstanding from our original conversation, which David was nice enough to rectify. They've been talking to Don Mancini, writer of all the films and director of Seed of Chucky, to actually direct the remake, something that was a bit unclear. David told us, "Don has been my partner from the beginning of this franchise and has some very very creepy and scary ideas about going back to the
original and giving it some more bite that we believe will satisfy the appetite of today's horror fans (and loyal Chucky fans, as well.) Our hope and plan is that Don will write and direct the film and he and I look forward to getting the studio on board with us asap."

That certainly sounds very promising!

Of course, the age-old question of "Why?" immediately came up. "Look at 'Halloween'," he quickly responded. "It's kind of commerce to keep the franchise going, and another reason to go see it. For me, it's exciting, because the first one was really scary and then from there, we kind of… my favorites are 1 and 4. I love 4, it really makes me laugh and I think Jennifer Tilly is so great, but just the idea of going back to where we were the first time around and I think for me, it's almost 30 years later for me as a filmmaker from where I started to now, and the idea of taking some skill that maybe I didn't possess then and putting it towards the next film, I think could be exciting."

Would they possibly use the same script? "I think it would be pretty close to it, that's for sure, but there's some other things that we're exploring also, and some twists that we don't want the audience to expect, as far as a couple deaths, where you think you're going in one way and you're going to go in another way as a result of knowing it and it being such a popular franchise." These new developments may include learning more about Charles Lee Ray, although they're discussing whether series regular Brad Dourif will be back in that role and once again voicing Chucky.

But don't just assume that because we're well into the 21st Century that Chucky will be any sort of CG motion-captured creation. "It'll be an animatronic doll, like we do all of them, but animatronics have grown from when we did the first one 20 years ago. We just did the commentary on the 20th Anniversary of it, and all the stars, the little kid Andy Barkley, all of that, so that's coming out in January/February."

come on please dont make this stupid ass remake and come on NO ONE LIKES REMAKES! THEYRE ****ING GAY i mean come on its the same movie over again i wanna see don mancini and david kirschner make revenge of chucky or chucky vs leprechaun those would be kick ass movies not the ****in first one all over again this is a complete let down for die hard fans of chucky including me as one of them and also rob zombie sucks and rob zombies remake of halloween WAS HORSE****!-Cody Die Hard Fan Of Chucky :)

ok. this is amazing, i cant believe they want to do a remake. but since they left off at seed of chucky, its been making me think that maybe they should do the revenge of chucky first then the remake. 4 and 5 pretty much sucked. but in the 5th one we get hanged off with the kid getting attacked my chuckys cut off arm. maybe they should have countinued that movie to kill tiffany (jennifer tilly) and his son and human daugter glen and glenetta and end that mess b4 we just hang her for them to do a remake of the oringanal chucky movie. i loved the first movie and i cant wait till it comes out which i think it comes out in 2010 which is next year. but i wish they just finished off first before the remake. if they did do a revenge of chucky i hope it would not suck like the last two movies and i hope they make it as scary as they are going to do to the remake....does anyone argree with me?

okay I'm a DIE HARD FAN of chucky.I think the idea of the remake is a must also, I like to say or write rather please don't make my man look like a chump in the remake.Chucky is a killer not a dumb little goof ball with corny jokes.Yeah I guess I'm being a critic.Make him insane with intensions to kill period.Just like you guys did in 1,2,and 3 but put 100 times more horror in it.The bride of chucky wasn't that great and take the original copy of seed of chucky and throw it in the trash cause it was ass.

BRING BACK THE KILLER DOLL THAT ALL TRUE CHUCKY FANS WANT TO SEE.

I think the remake will be great. Ya the older ones were great to but yet cheezy as well. If it is straight up horror blood and guts it will be a smash hit. Im not to fond of the remakes like Halloween or Friday the 13th but Childs play, Nightmare on Elm street sound better look better and even feel better so far. I hope it lives up to the expectations.

If Brad Dourif doesn't get the role, then the movie will not be that interesting to me.
I mean , his voice Rocks as that it is pretty scary(it's not personal). :D

In this new chucky movie would the doll be the same or would there be a new doll knowing that the new chucky doll are differrent im excited for new childs play movie my favorite horror movie but the series of childs play was a good hit i think its gone this far i thought i was gonna to see childs play seven but what ever you guys come up with im happy

i am so happy they are coming out with a chils play remake :) i love chucky he is the coolest i like all the movies i like 1-3 cause they are horrer more then i like the bride of chucky and the seed of chucky case it was two of my favorite genras horror and comedy

Lets be a little more realistic not 1 horror remake has kept the same actor as the previous franchise had. No Englund for Nightmare no Hodder for Friday. And givin the fact dourif is 59 and they are sound like they are gooing to give Charles Lee ray more screen time as a human . I think it would be a mistake. Just a thought.

well it has the voice of chucky (Brad Dourif) any ways if he did not do the chucky voice then the movie would suck.. but hey chuckys back and its about damn time.. anyways every body would know chucky would come back sometime or another. and even better, its the first one too!

Brad Dourif HAS to voice chucky. He was the best. And to those of you who say that chucky 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 sucked, UP YOURS!!! They all ****ing owned. Chucky is the best. I don't even want them to remake it. They should just make a sequel to SEED. Chucky's classic look should not change.

Well the first three child Play movies were fine, but when they made the: "Bride of chucky" and "The seed of chucky", it just became stupid. I would like to see a remake, with just chucky in it, no bride or son with him.

Why a remake. Not every horror movie needs to be remade. In the last movie, Chucky finally embarrassed being a killer doll which meant that the next movie would be free to go in a different direction. So what do they do, decide to take it back to the beginning. What about something like this. Chucky is no longer trying to be human, so what does a killer doll do with his time. He gets revenge on all those who have wronged him. Have Chucky kill the cop from the first movie as well as Andy's mother, then have him turn his anger on Andy himself. Chucky doesn't just want Andy to die, he wants him to suffer by destroying everything Andy loves. Make a darker sadistic chucky who hides in the shadows and even sets elaborate traps like he did against his ex-partner in the first movie. Chucky was scary in the first movie because you didn't really see him. Then when Andy's mother went to throw him in the fire, Chucky came to life screaming "I'm gonna f@

One more thing. They should at least listen to the fans and bring back Brad Dourif. If they don't, it will be enough to drive the original fans away. Almost everyone wants Brad to return for this one.

why would you go back to the bigining that is one of the best, you should making the sixth one about chucky coming back to get glen and glenda ,not remaking them they're perfect the way there are

please forget remaking the first one and do the sixth one propally
