Niles: No Direct-to-DVD 30 Days Sequel

Source:ShockTillYouDrop.com
May 30, 2008

Today, a report surfaced elsewhere pointing to Ghost House Pictures' plans to develop a direct-to-DVD sequel to 30 Days of Night. "I have no idea where this is coming from," 30 Days creator Steve Niles reveals to Shock with a bit of surprise. "There's not one bit of truth to that." He does own up to wanting to pursue a follow-up to last year's violent vampire epic. But Niles and director David Slade stated there was always potential, if the film performed well. Should there be a sequel, Niles will undoubtedly have involvement.

We'll keep you informed on all of the latest as it comes in.

They should leave it alone. It works as a single film, an sequels will be forced and will ruin the original film. Take note of all the movies that were great standing alone and money forced sequels...there are too many to name.

Yea but at the same time, done correctly a movie of the novels sequels could come across amazing on film, and could shed light on the online movies released online, which were in the novels...I'm all for it

Sequel already exists in the comics and it's called DARK DAYS. It's a fantastic follow-up. Part 3 is 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: RETURN TO BARROW. Both of those would make great movies if adapted. For the rest of you, check 'em out.

Well, this is where the 'report that surfaced elsewhere ' came from .. http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/12436

Here's a quick rundown of what it says..

"Although still in very early talks, we learned last night - and confirmed with various sources - that Ghost House Pictures is looking to produce the sequel to the adaptation to his popular vampire comic, 30 Days of Night, only this time the film is planned (not yet decided) for a direct-to-DVD/Blu-ray release. No word yet on writers or a director, but we'll let you know as soon as word comes in. The first movie was set in the isolated town of Barrow, Alaska, in the extreme northern hemisphere, which is plunged into complete darkness annually for an entire month. When most of the inhabitants head south for the winter, a mysterious group of strangers appear: bloodthirsty vampires, ready to take advantage of the uninterrupted darkness to feed on the town's residents. As the night wears on, Barrow's Sheriff Eben, his estranged wife Stella, and an ever-shrinking group of survivors must do anything they can to last until daylight."

Well, www.bloody-disgusting.com CONFIRMED it as true & www.shocktillyoudrop.com CONFIRMED it wasnt true...lol.. someone's lying huh.. :P

The sequel comics sucked and they should leave this one alone. 30 Days of Night was surprisingly good for a film staring Josh Hartnett, and surprisingly good for a movie from the lame Ghost House Pictures. Let's not press our luck here.

now can argue about that. But i think there should a least a follow up to what happen to the survivors of the town of Borrow.
And Dark Days was great sequel, ye nut.

i really would like a sequel, but not straight to video. DARK DAYS deserves more!

If they do it, hopefully they'll get rid of that Russian emo dialogue the vamps spounted.

I thought this movie was good, incl. the acting, then all of a sudden he shoots himself up with Vampire heroine and becomes one. F U C K E D UP the movie. It went downhill from there. A sequel is sure to suck.

i'd LOVE to have a great sequel of 30 Days! some sequels are as good as, or even better than the originals. (i.e. 28 Weeks Later!). if it come to fruition, i hope it will be theatrical release, though.

they should only do this movie if a character constantly repeats the words "we need to move." Awful movie. Awful ****ing movie and **** you for suggesting a sequel.

I agree with johnny5 movie was ****ing horrible. Worst ending i've seen in while

I loved this movie until the end. Not the making himself a vampire part, Just the blatant ripoff of Blade 2's ending. I loved the soundtrack and the flick was mean-spirited and not watered down.
So Johnny5, you didn't like the movie?

I love the first one so i hope they make the sequel anytime soon

Posted by: jordyn on June 2, 2008 at 08:42:19

i think the first movie was the sh** but dont disapoint people on the second one if you make it. it has to be as good as the first...but nothing beats the first

Posted by: Cruci on June 6, 2008 at 11:02:20

Rip off of blade 2? I hope you realize the graphic novel came out before the concept was introduced in Blade 2.

Not dissing Blade 2 (one of the few sequels that surpass the original IMO), just kinda helping to put things into perspective.

I do agree that the ending of this movie did feel more awkward in the movie (despite having read it already). Either way, I'll be there for the sequel.

Posted by: Joe on June 6, 2008 at 17:58:25

Actually, if any of you have read the graphic novel you would know that there actually is a sequel to the first one that was actually incredibly good. I hope they do make it into a movie and keep the theme of the original graphic novel sequel. It's all about the wife of the sheriff going after the vampires, and she is pissed.

I hope they make a sequal to the movie.
I adored the first one and the second one is gonna be even greater.
I loved the dialogue that the vampires had and the acting was wonderful.
Definitely something I would watch a sequal to.
:]
