Board Midnight Meat Train for Cheap
Source:Ryan Rotten
July 30, 2008
Well, they're upholding their end of their contract. Various reports are coming in saying that Ryuhei Kitamura's Midnight Meat Train is hitting theaters this Friday, you'll just have to turn to your bargain theater to see it. Across the country, the Clive Barker adaptation is opening in venues where ticket prices are only one to two dollars! At the start of the week, Shock contacted a rep involved in the film to get an official theater count and potential listings - our query was not answered.
This maneuver is the latest in a line of unkind gestures towards the filmmakers of MMT. It began with rumblings of Lionsgate offering a limited release to fulfill its deal with production entity Lakeshore. Genre fans responded with petitions, catching the attention of Barker who endorsed a campaign for a wider bow. In the heat of this backlash, a little bird tells us Lionsgate's Joe Drake called for a meeting with Barker which "did not go well." And here we are, with a flaccid debut for an adaptation that was well-received in Montreal, at the Fantasia Film Festival, and at the San Diego Comic-Con.
If you have a chance to catch Midnight Meat Train near you...awesome. Otherwise, stay tuned for DVD release news sooner than later.

Well that sucks, how come crap like saw has a wide release, and something that looks original and pretty good and is based on a clive barker novel has a limited release?
**** i really hate what lionsgates been doing lately.

a lot of us been ranting/venting about this for months now but now it's coming to a head. Lionsgate literally just said to Clive Barker (and the makers of the film) & horror fans "F^UCK YOU".
i've NEVER (have you?) heard of a new release being released into 100 $1 cinemas. i'm "lucky" (if you can call it that) that it's coming to a VERY out of the way theater here in Seattle. our $2.00 cinema that's going to take my friend and i about an hour each way to get to.
"F^UCK YOU, LIONSGATE!!"

now thanks to Lionsgate, im sure Kitamura-san has been really discouraged from making American movies. whatever, lets just hope for an amazing dvd.

k, i can almost guarantee that the DVD release will be the most barebones(i'm talking NO extras), probably FULL screen (just to piss us off) DVD release. Lionsgate is DETERMINED to ruin any success MMT could've had in theaters AND on DVD.

that's not good, i mean seriously, exhibiting in just few theater, with a low cost that great, but enought. god.

Get a life, youse peoples. You'll see the flick one way or another, and shortly after, it'll be another DVD in your extensive collections. Really, Clive Barker isn't that fantastic, and the adaptations of flicks are worse. Check out Lord of Illusions - great book, but the movie was a Quantum Leap from the source material. See what I did there? Quantum Leap? Ha!

justin, you don't get it. if Lionsgate will do this with MMT & Repo!, then who's to say they won't do this with, say, a movie you DO want to see? LG built their, dare i say "empire" on horror movies/horror movie fans. Joe Drake from LG is a F^UCKING TOOL. a couple of his upcoming productions are "Boogeyman 3" and "The Grudge 3". WTF!? if these float you're boat, justin, rather that an original horror movie, then have at it.

lionsgate seems not to have respect for the horror genre. It seems the only films they put all their promotion into is the SAW films (which in my opinion need to die a horrible death).I yearn for the day when film companies will respect horror films and their fans. We finally get a horror film with rave reviews and like the typical clueless fools these execs are, they refuse to give it a wide release. I say when the film comes out on DVD, people show your love and support for MMT.

This is crap. I've been waiting to see this. I don't even know if my area has a $1-$2 movie theatre, guess I need to look now.
Lionsgate is getting way to big for their britches. The Saw franchise, The Blair Witch Project, Dogma, American Psycho, Monster's Ball and others gave Lionsgate legs to stand on. Than they won the big one with Crash and now this. I like that a "one time small company" is now bigger but please stay true to your roots. Be kind to the type of movies that gave you those legs!

I thought this movie was great and it pisses me off that they're not releasing it, so I think we should all boycott seeing the latest "Saw" movie to teach Lionsgate a lesson.
