Where is the Motel Hell Remake?
Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
October 19, 2008
An update of Kevin Connor's 1980 Motel Hell, in which Rory Calhoun is seen capturing folks then turning them into treats, is back at MGM. Earlier this year, the redo rights landed in the hands of Twisted Pictures (responsible for Saw and its sequels).
"We were going to do it and we couldn't come up with a script we liked," Twisted Pictures' Mark Burg told me at the Scream 2008 awards ceremony in Hollywood. "I'm not going to make a movie just to make a movie. We had a couple of drafts and none of them are good enough - so why do it?"
Since then, rumblings have placed Automaton Transfusion director Steven Miller at the helm of Hell.

He answered his own question about the remake:
WHY DO IT?

At least it's not like they don't care. They're not willing to put out a piece of crap just for the hell of it, which is more than can be said for most of Hollywood.

That is quite possibly the greatest quote I have ever heard. Finally someone is realizing "Hey we dont need to make another remake just for the sake of making a remake." Why the f**k cant anyone else think this way.

Shoot, let me write the script. I'd love to do that. I LIKE Motel Hell, but I always thought it could have been a bit better. I'd have Farmer Roy wear the pig head a lot more instead of the just at the end and do away with all the psychadelic lights he hynotizes his victims with before snapping their necks. Twisted Pictures... look me up!

I don't think there needs to be a remake of the Classic, but if anybody should get thier hands on directing, it should be Rob Zombie without a doubt!

For the love of all things sacred, no more remakes! Motel Hell is right where it should be...remembered as a cult favorite. remake it and it looses its unique standing. Allow me to pitch an idea to all upcoming directors...how about thinking up an idea all on your own? I know it sounds crazy, but legend has it some directors possess this rare archaic ability. Rob Zombie raped Halloween, Burton raped Wonka, Psycho was raped. There's at least 50 remakes in the works. and remake history shows that ALL of them will pale in comparison to the originals. Why steal other people's ideas? Aren't we supposed to be creative in the arts field? Stop raping the classics!

At least they have the right idea in mind - Motel Hell remade could be brilliant, but only if it's in the right hands with the right script. I'd love to rewrite it, too, but as that was the first horror film to actually freak me out, maybe it's better to just let it live on as it is.
