Blade Could Return and Get a Facelift

December 12, 2021

When Blade: Trinity arrived at the tail-end of 2004, the word on the street was that David Goyer was paving the way for a spin-off franchise featuring Hannibal King (Ryan Renolds) and Abigail Whistler (Jessica Biel). Needless to say, that never happened and the fans got a short-lived Spike TV Blade series with Sticky Fingaz replacing Wesley Snipes. Its on-air lifespan, however, may have spelled the end for further adventures of the Daywalker. Ah, but time heals in Hollywood and, as we all know, what is old can easily be renewed. Especially Blade, a franchise that has grossed over $400 million worldwide.

"God, it feels like they remake movies five years after they come out now," Goyer answers when asked if there's the possibility of seeing Blade's resurrection on screen. "I'm sure New Line at some point would like to do another version of it. Me? Never say never, but I think remakes are more successful the more time there is in between. Honestly, I think they should have waited for the new Hulk. I like the new one. But the longer time you have between remakes [and their originals], the better. For me, ten years is the minimum you really need."

So wait, are we talking remake and not an actual next chapter? Goyer says, "I heard rumors that they may want to start from scratch with a new person playing Blade. It's funny because I thought about how I never wanted to do a vampire film ever again because I'm sick of it. But I was reading the Tomb of Dracula Omnibus and I hadn't read them in a long time and I thought it might be cool to do another vampire movie at some point."

Sounds like the man isn't done with the Daywalker yet. They've replaced Snipes once before. What do you think? Is it time to give the series an overhaul?

It's too soon. I really feel the Blade movies stand up even though it's been 10 years since the first. Sure, Trinity wasn't great, but it left itself open for a sequel, not a reboot. The TV series was a really good idea too, just very poorly executed. I`d be up for a 4th Blade, but Wesley would have to be back.

Hell NO!!!!!! Snipes is Blade for me. I never got to see the orginal on screen, but bought it on tape(When tapes rules the world) and I loved every movie. I mean damn Wesley the third one was great and it didn't make you look like an *******. Jump on this and do another one. You coukld use the money and I'm sure all the Blade fans would like to see you at it again!

Pretty lame idea to reboot the franchise.

I love the original Blade and I could never adjust to Sticky Fingaz taking on the role in the series.

Best leaving it alone for now....get some god damn originality.

It's funny... Back in the early days of Shock, I did a poll that asked what sequel you would like to see most and "Blade 4" was vying for number one next to "Jeepers Creepers 3" there's obviously an audience out there that wants more.

BLADE 3 was one of the worst sequels I have ever seen.

Blade 1 was beyond awesome and lade 2 was very good. I could see using somebody other than snipe---what I could not see any other actor doing would be WHISTLER! KRIS KRISTOFERSON was the best part of those flicks.
I like how he got to use a semi truck just like his old "convoy" days!
However, wasn't kind of weird that Whistler died in like all 3 movies?

The first Blade movie was the best. Hope they don't replace Snipes if they re-make it.

When I first heard they were going with rapper Sticky Fingaz for the Blade tv series, I thought it would've been more interesting to have someone like Busta Rhymes in the lead role, a Blade with a loud cocky attitude whupping major ass.

If it don't got Wesley then don't waist our time! Wesley is Blade, quit ****ing around with perfection!

I was never that into Blade but between Wesley Snipes and Sticky Fingaz, Wesley seemed to fit the role better. Sticky didn't seem like he could act at all. I can't get over that name, Sticky Fingas, that's an odd name, but I think it'll be hard for them to find a new Blade.

I actually liked Blade Trinity. The show wasn't bad but could have been better, I liked that they gave us peaks into more of Blade's history and childhood, how Whistler came into his life, the story behind the tattoos, etc. I just wish it hadn't ended with such a cliffhanger. There was no closure.

But no, Snipes is that man for Blade. Wouldn't be crazy about a remake but I could deal with a sequel. Except I'm not sure where they would go with a sequel, he already killed off Dracula, and he's Blade's Lex Luthor.

Maybe introduce Morbius: The Living Vampire? That would be interesting. Have a villain who is not a vampire by choice and not a vampire in the traditional mythical sense but a product of science. And someone who only drinks the blood of the guilty (if you want to go with the Midnight Sons treatment) and thus a sympathetic character that could challenge Blade's conscience as he is not Blade's traditional prey and does not drink from the innocent.

Wesley Snipes is Blade... No one else could fill those shoes... A remake should be way beyond 20 years. With that said, Wes didn't exactly leave the franchise in good standings, and now his career has tanked, because of him breaking the law for not paying his taxes and all...

Not alot of good news on here today. And as far as a Freddy remake, who cares? Snipes, pay ur damn taxes like almost every other american has to!

Blade 1 and 2 were great, 3 sucked. No one could replace Snipes....He brought the character to life...Snipes ='s Blade period, if he isn't in it will flop....Hope it happens, Loved the character.

If they revamp (pun intended) Blade, NO GOYER.

I can't quite understand how he started out so strong with the first Blade and then just imploded by the awful Blade: Trinity and the Spike series. He kept changing the origins of characters like Whistler (I loved in the first film).

I think if Blade is relaunched, not only another actor but another writer. Someone who can bring fresh ideas to the character.

We all know why Blade Trinity tanked the franchise. Goyer was trying to get a deal on a Nightstalkers spinoff and Blade, the title character got pushed aside for Jessica Biel creating a playlist on her ipod to fight.

I saw all the flims and have them on DVD. along with the first episode of Blade: The TV Series.

Wesly Snipes made Blade. Finding a replacement for him on the big screen might destroy the franchise. Granted fans would go see it any way just to see how good or bad the replacement would be.

Trinity was a little disappoiment for me. It looked like they were trying to hard on the comedy part. It didn't seem serious to me.

Has for the TV Show. I am surprise the the SCI-FI Channel did not pick it up when Spike dropped it.

Sticky Fingaz was okay for the TV Version of Blade. I think he was a little big (muscluar), martial arts was okay and the sword fighting was okay but it could have been LOTS BETTER. Like have a more professional person in there. Attiude of Blade was close but not close enough.

If a remake/revamp of Blade is in the works or even a next chapter, I believe Wesly Snipes would be on board. He is to close to Blade.

I really couldn't care less who plays Blade. The secondary characters in all of these movies were way more interesting than the actual Blade character.

i said this on the other site. no sam jackson just wesley. sticky sucked as blade an so did the tv show. it was more about the skinny white girl than him and the production values sucked it should have been done in anime like afro samurai. i hope they do make the "TRIBE" movie by larry stroman we need more black superheroes on film. chocolate news just parodied this on their show this week with blomicon. wake up hollywood. an at time when our nations new leader will be black.

A'm a fan of the blade movie becaues wesley was blade and he hads a martial arts back grould. so if you are going to do other blade moive make sure you get an atter that has a martial arts back grould.the blade series was would've ben better if they got some won that new how to fight. because sticky finger just was not a good atter for blade allso if you are going to do other blade moive do not do a rebot just do a blade 4. and if you are going to do other blade movie you need to brang back jessica biel and ryan reynolds that allso the reason way the tv series to me don't do well becaues they didn't explane what happan to abigail whistler and the hannibal all i have to say is if you are going to do other movie the only atter that i can see playing blade is michael jai white because he's the only atter that i know that has a martail arts back grounld and the only atter i know that looks like wesley snipes and that can pull it of.the last thing i have to say is number 1 no rebot 2 get michael jai white 3 get jessica biel and byan reynolds back 4 if you don't get wicheal jai white for blade its not going to work because he his the best atter for the roll.

Marvel should try rebooting the comic first. There hasn't been a decent Blade comic series anytime in the last decade. Last time at bat, we got Spider-Man as a vampire and Blade working with Doctor Doom. WTF?

Maybe if they make the core charcter a little cooler, then they can concentrate on bringing him back to the big screen.

Ditto for Ghost Rider.

On a side note; Snipes is my hero. F*^& the American government. Nobody should pay their taxes. They need some money, they can f*^%ing mint it. They'll just use it to go to war with a third world country for no reason in the end.

And Blade Trinity was awesome. (Except for the part where it was a Blade movie and Whistler died for the fourteenth time. And really just about everything with Dracula. Aside from that though, it was tight.)

Posted by: Kevin on December 12, 2008 at 18:06:21

I'd watch it because i've always been a fan of the character but as long as David Goyer is only the screenwriter, you saw what he did with Blade: Trinity and how that movie was a piece of s**t. they marginalized his character and Wesley had every right to be angry with the movie.
