Exclusive: First Photo of Sack Head Jason Voorhees!
Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
December 8, 2008

Before making the hockey mask something his own in '82 - a signature visage that would grace t-shirts, costumes, toys and lunchboxes - Jason Voorhees stalked the wooded environs of Crystal Lake with his head covered in something you'd find on the malformed noggin' of John Merrick: A burlap sack. In Friday the 13th Part 2 he tormented Amy Steel and company in an ill-fitting bag with a single eye hole to peer out of. The creative team behind the upcoming Friday the 13th (set visit) are re-introducing this disguise and we've got your exclusive first look with the photo you see below.

Producer Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes tells us "sack head Jason" dipped in an out of various script drafts. "But it was [Damian] Shannon and [Mark] Swift who came up with giving the film that seminal moment where you go from the baghead to the hockey mask," he says. "That was something that we all wanted to do in the movie. If we're going to be true to what we're doing here, and tell - obviously not a remake of the first movie and it's not a sequel - key moments from all of the movies, we really wanted to integrate it in our own way." FX artists Scott Stoddard is responsible for designing the streamlined appearance you see. "He is so good that what he gives us is what we go with, that was the case here. He just hit a home run with it and we just loved the design."

Which version of "sack head Jason" do you prefer? This new "snug fit" approach, or, the ol' "I just raided a pillow party" look? Comment below!

Friday the 13th - starring Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti, Derek Mears, Danielle Panabaker, Travis Van Winkle and Aaron Yoo - opens in theaters on February 13th.

I think it's alot creepier than the hockey mask to be honest

Definitely looks better than the sack in Part 2.

Is it just me, or does it look like he's wearing jeans?

Posted by: Hollywood Type on December 8, 2008 at 16:45:43

He looks like a ninja that does his shopping at Wal-Mart.

LMAO! That's one of the funniest comments I've read in awhile...

It's true though!

Wow! I think this sack is much creepier than the original one used, which really looked like he just picked up a bag of potatoes and cut an eye hole in it. It does look as though THIS Jason has not yet found the joy of a nice pair of coveralls like in the originals. In this and other pics I have seen for the new one, it looks like he is wearing a really torn up t-shirt and jeans...at least from what has been shown of the movie so far. I'm excited either way. It sounds like they are doing a decent job for a reboot.

Sackboys forever anyway...wheres the eyehole?

Posted by: Sackboy on December 8, 2008 at 17:13:51

I ask about the eye hole because A it would look creepier having an eye of a rotting deformed guy looking at you through it and the actor most likely ran into something atleast once even if he dosen't want to admit it

Posted by: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor on December 8, 2008 at 17:21:03

The eye hole is there. Look closely at the zoomed in photo on the bottom.

He should be wearing green or grey work pants

Posted by: KILLER on December 8, 2008 at 17:41:54

Look's like a sack?

Posted by: screenscribe on December 8, 2008 at 17:49:24

I think the original sack is creepier. This does fit the "new" Jason since they have given him a bit more smarts. The only thing that bugs me as a story-teller is who tied it for him? Granted he could do it on his own but its a nice neat knot as if someone stood behind him to get everything just right.

Posted by: Sam on December 8, 2008 at 17:50:10

Dan, why "should he be wearing green or grey work pants?" Because you say so? This is a new Jason, open your mind.

Posted by: Sandy on December 8, 2008 at 18:13:35

I think he's way too skinny to be Jason.

Posted by: Jon on December 8, 2008 at 18:26:08

Obviously the person above me is an idiot...Of course he ran in movies...How do you think he was able to catch up to all of his victims if he didn't run after them? Does he take giant walking steps to catch his victims or teleport to where they are? They just never showed him running.

Posted by: seth on December 8, 2008 at 18:53:39

yeah he ran in parts 2 and 3

Posted by: B- on December 8, 2008 at 18:56:52

Jason ran in parts 2 and 3. Kinda ran in 4. Walked real fast in 6. And did a super jump through a kitchen window in 7.

Anyone who doesn't know that Jason did in fact run, only probably saw the "Zombie Jason" sequels & not 2-4.

looks good
i dig the fact that they're using the sack and the hocky mask. heres hoping this is the batman begins of the F13th movies

Posted by: doom on December 8, 2008 at 20:21:30

wow...!!well...i think this is mor
eciting than before..

Posted by: doom on December 8, 2008 at 20:24:21

can i ask again...where the hell is your original mask???

Posted by: eelyajekim on December 8, 2008 at 20:47:45

All it needs now is a aerosol hallucinogenic weapon

Posted by: zero on December 8, 2008 at 20:51:53

What made Friday the 13th scary was Jason's mother played by the talented Betsy Palmer. Jason became nothing but a cartoon character as the sequels sadly display.... but the reason the original stands up so well is because of Betsy Palmer's creepy and stellar performance. Sadly, the reimagineers for the Friday series failed to acknowledge this...if I was in the woods alone, I would rather be running away from Jason instead of Mrs. Voorhees any day.

Wow! That looks different. I personally like the hockey mask better. This is a good gritty killer look, though.

Posted by: dave on December 8, 2008 at 22:17:17

I like the sack headed Jason better than the hockey mask.

Posted by: Jason4life on December 8, 2008 at 22:46:38

Does anyone else think the 'potato sack' looks like ace bandage wrap? What ev Im pumped for this movie but I'm afraid Michael Bay will ruin this like he did texas chainsaw massacre. And **** you ***** ! The hockey mask is so much better than a mummy wrapped jason.

Posted by: fabuloustains on December 8, 2008 at 23:06:47

old orginal sack is wayyy scarier and wayyy better. this looks like a G.I. Joe ninja. these filmmakers don't know what they're doing.
