King Kong Attraction Destroyed at Universal
Source:MSNBC
June 1, 2008

Some breaking news from Universal City this morning...

An early-morning fire broke out on the Universal Studios backlot spreading from a soundstage to surrounding areas. More than 400 Los Angeles firefighters are on the scene trying to temper a blaze which has destroyed the studio tour's King Kong attraction, the New York street and town square areas, the video vault and various sets.

Officials do not know the cause of the blaze. There have been six fires reported in Universal's history, including a large one that occurred 18 years ago.

Wow. That really stinks. It was most likely an employee who got pissed for some reason. Just kidding. However I wouldn't put it past them. If Universal Studios is as strict as Disney then it may happen. The following article tells a story of an ex-employee from Disney and his experience. He didn't do anything bad but it's an OK read.

This is upsetting for a lot of reasons. As most of you probably know, the Kong stuff was from an actual ride...which means yet another great Universal ride is official gone. This could also mean that production of some movies could be halted because of set damage. Let's just hope nothing too important was in that video vault.

If it was infact an employee, I hope they find out who did it and give him some jail time.

Upsetting news. I'm a huge movie buff. A lot famous movies were made off the Universal Studios Backlot. Psycho, King Kong, Earthquake. Memories of Old Hollywood will always be in my mind. Hope those 400 firefighters will put out the blast.

The have duplicates of the videos that were destroyed at some other location.

I read on comingsoon.net (from a poster) that he lived near the studio and heard a huge bang around the time the fire started. I also believe that they contained the fire as of 9am, according to cnn.com

Also, tourist and visitors were complaining that they could not enter the studio. You believe that shiz! The nerve of some people.
