Update: Predators Director Confirmed By Rodriguez
Source:AICN
July 2, 2009

Update: According to The Hollywood Reporter Alex Litvak and Michael Finch are writing the script.

Harry Knowles gave a ring to Robert Rodriguez to get confirmation on who's at the helm of Predators, 20th Century Fox's next film in the franchise. And it is Nimrod Antal, the man behind the upcoming action flick Armored and who last dabbled in the thriller genre with Vacancy. You'll recall Latino Review broke Antal's potential involvement here.

Speaking exclusively to AICN, Rodriguez, who is shepherding the project, says the story involves "a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors - that are not always from outside their group. So like the original movie, the title does have a double meaning. Aliens was a different take on the Alien idea, and an original movie in it's own right, and that's what we want to do with this."

The film is a Troublemaker Studios production. For more with Rodriguez click here!

FIRST....on the Predator planet, give me a break. Not seeing it then

Posted by: Nunya on July 1, 2009 at 23:25:46

Why? That sounds cool as hell. If anything it's kind of stupid to have that much of a reaction to it without seeing anything at all. Plus - you're an idiot for saying first, your opinion is moot anyway.

Sounds better than the AVP movies!!! lookin' forward to it! can't wait to see their home planet. hope Dutch makes an appearance. Get to the Choppuh!!!!!!

Posted by: djblack1313 on July 1, 2009 at 23:29:12

i probably won't see this seeing as i'm not at all a predator fan, but Antal's VACANCY was EXCELLENT. so i may give this a shot just because of him.

So Basically we are going to be getting a piece of **** CGI film starring abunch of teenagers stranded on the predator's homeworld. Thanks but I think I'll skip it. Doesn't ANYONE care about making a great movie nowadays?!?!?!?! I'm sick of the bull****. Bring back REAL film please. It's also alot cheaper to build some real sets and shoot in some real jungles than it is to do the ****ing Computer generated imagry. Thats the sad truth that Hollywood doesn't want getting out there. They made the first Predator for under 10 million I believe. Thats 10. Not 100. Well they've ruined just about every other franchise I ever cared about so what's one more.

Posted by: RJ Scriber on July 2, 2009 at 00:46:59

gutsnsluts - let's be honest, AVP had amazing potential to be a ****ing epic movie... and Hollywood ruined it. What's new? Of course if I'm going that route, Doom and Resident Evil had amazing potential, also.

Justin Novak - I agree. There's movies made back in 1981, like An American Werewolf in London and the '87 Predator that still look great today because of the real locals and puppetry, which obviously costs less. Then there are movies that came out within the last 5-8 years, that use CGI, and today, it looks like utter ****.

I am not a fan of Nimrod, would've have seen Marshall.

This thing hasn't even started FILMING yet, but the crybabies must weigh in. You guys are funny.

I want there to be a Linda in this film.
Who knows where we can do this?

Alright the c ockblocker gets one last chance at my money, if he f ucks this up then my wallet will have to suffer through another loss

Posted by: Orlando on July 2, 2009 at 01:44:23

Sounds great. FINALLY on another planet, and from the sounds of things, it looks like the Predators are gonna be scary and live up to their names, lol.
Justin Novak-Way to go, you now have the title of the biggest cry baby, yay!
First off, why would you want Predators in a jungle? Not only is that "been there_done that" but really? "Hollywood(if thats what you want to call it)" is already being bashed by the haters(like you) for it's unoriginality. Now heres an idea that might actually work, but yet you still want to complain. How about just watching Animal Planet if thats what you really look for-Predators In The Jungle.
Second, who said anything about teens being "the group" since it wasn't explained exactly how the group got on the other world. But he did use the word intense, so Im pretty sure, its not gonna be 6 kids from prom.
Third, being that none of your money is being used to make the movie, why do you give a **** what setting costs cheapier than the other?
Conclusion*How about you and all the other stone age movie goers, just go crawl under a rock, and shut up for once.

Yeah i also think this is a bad idea but i'll wait till more info comes out. I kept hearing word that the next Predator movie would take place in the middle east.

Posted by: Dan0z on July 2, 2009 at 04:54:00

they just need to cast it right... we live in a time where there arent so many "hard action" stars like the schwarzenegers, stallones, willis' and even glovers of the 80's early 90's. everything is too fluffed up and friendly and films these days go overkill with too many characters. these characters dont get enough screen time and then you just dont care about them throughout the film. they studios need to wake up and realise that less is actually more. we want our classic violent actions back!!!
oh.. and the reason AVP didnt work was because the makers didnt even do their homework... i mean any fan would know that predators are drawn to heat and conflict... so who's brain fart was it to have the location as a frozen aztec pyramid buried in the snow?????

Posted by: FiBsTrOMKIII on July 2, 2009 at 05:26:12

I think this kinda sounds promising, too early to tell though. I hope Robert will talk a little more about it at Comic-con(please, please,PLEASE!!!)I hope the director, Nimrod, won't screw this up and look like a...well... nimrod.

cool

Posted by: Not Neil Marshall? on July 2, 2009 at 09:40:07

2 Words: Dog Soldiers. 2 more words: The Descent.

Posted by: daniel clavette on July 2, 2009 at 14:50:42

Wow that is truly that it will be on predator home planet and it wiil fun to see new predator movies.

Posted by: Just visiting on July 2, 2009 at 15:18:23

I hope they don't promise too much when comparing it to Aliens. I mean if they really manage something like that with Predator that would be more than awesome.

I am definitly looking forward to this. Just hoped that Neil would get the chance to direct it.

the story involves "a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors - that are not always from outside their group."

....so it's Pitch Black with Predators?

Posted by: Nunya on July 2, 2009 at 16:58:19

Sir. Yeah, because Pitch Black was the first movie ever where people were stuck anywhere, planet or not, with monsters or whatnot. Hell, it doesn't even have to be planet...it could be house, cave, spaceship, etc. Yeah, it's not original but what is? I don't see how you can complain about a BASIC plot point. The bare bones. God, you guys are stupid and trying to sound smart.

Posted by: DarkConker13 on July 2, 2009 at 23:09:43

Haha haters, haters everywhere. As a long time predator fan who actually saw the originals in the theatre, this could be very good (or bad). Robert Rodriguez is an excellent director, producer, writer, etc (Sin City, Despardo, Dusk Till'Dawn, ring a bell?) and although the director is an odd choice he obviously has confidence in him. Second the setting is irrelevant! A planet is a big, freakin, place kids. Perhaps just like our planet they have jungles, mountains, oceans, civilizations, or any combination of things, wouldn't that be strange!? The "intense group of people" could be marines ala Predator and/or Aliens, a crash-landed ship crew like the ones aboard the Nostromo? Hell, as a normal guy i think being stuck in that situation would make me pretty intense too! (Until I got my head sniped by unseen hunter hiding in plain sight). Anyways kids, relax watch predator 1 & 2, and wait in eager anticipation for more developments, so far so good..

Posted by: RJ Scriber on July 3, 2009 at 01:13:07

Nunya - you do realize that both your posts are basically insults? It's a board, where people can post whatever they want. Yet, you're saying everyone is stupid and trying to sound smart. They're called opinions, man.

Predator is an old film with a lot of followers. If someone doesn't want to see someone like Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod ****ing it up, then let them.

Never thought I'd see oppression on a damn message board.

Posted by: Nunya on July 3, 2009 at 02:24:00

And opinions can be - and in this case - are stupid and I have the right to call them out on that. You don't think it's stupid to have a reaction like that with the only thing going for the movie is a synopsis? As for the second opinion I "dissed", are you saying what I said was not true? Here's a guy complaining about a movie's plot points when that's a basic plot point to just about any movie of the genre sci-fi/horror, etc. If you don't see the idiocy in that, well, I don't know what to tell you. Yeah, people can have opinions but if they're stupid and make no valid point...I'm going to call them out or question them.

Cool? Cool.

Posted by: Saul Tigh on July 3, 2009 at 07:33:08

What's keeping this from sucking a$$ as bad as AVP & AVP:R??????????

Posted by: Nunya on July 3, 2009 at 08:09:03

What's keeping it from being kick ass like Predator and Predator 2?

See what I did there?

Posted by: Movie_Jamie on July 3, 2009 at 15:23:43

I agree with Nunya. What's wrong with a little optimism when we know so little about a new installment to this badass franchise? It doesn't matter where it takes place (although I love the fact we're going to see more of the pretator planet.

I mean, lighten up folks. It just seems like there are some people that will bi tch regardless of the news. The only logic I can figure (like Nunya) is they want to sound cool, smart or whatever...

I could be wrong but that's my opinion. Nothing personal.

Happy 4th to all...even the haters!
