Red Talks 100 Feet Sci-Fi Debut
Source:ShockTillYouDrop.com
December 24, 2008

Word leaked out yesterday that Eric Red's 100 Feet, starring Famke Janssen, was eschewing a theatrical run for a premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel. Good and bad news. Good that it will be seen, bad for those looking forward to watching Red's first directorial effort since Bad Moon on the big screen.

"There were two domestic theatrical distribution offers on 100 Feet, including Magnolia," Red tells ShockTillYouDrop.com. "Ghost House also really wanted to take the picture. A Sci-Fi Channel release down the line is great, it's a fine network, but this film deserves a commercial shot in the theaters. It's doubly disappointing because the film played well in its several theatrical screenings and the audiences were very responsive. What is so maddening is we had distributors ready to release the film theatrically. It came down to continuous financial mismanagement by the producers, them wanting to make a few more bucks and not doing what was best for the film. I fought very hard for months to get everyone to do the right thing, but ultimately I don't own the negative. I hope over time people discover 100 Feet as they had with my other films, which usually had to overcome distribution issues."

In the film, Janssen plays Marnie Watson, a woman granted early release from her prison sentence for manslaughter (killing her husband – a violent NYC cop – in self defense) on condition she wear an electronic ankle bracelet and remain within her home, effectively under house arrest, for the remainder of her sentence. Her late husband's partner keeps tabs on her from a patrol car parked across the street, hoping she'll violate probation and he can send her back to prison. But the 100-foot radius her ankle bracelet allows isn’t the worst of her problems. Her dead husband – now a malevolent ghost is still in the house, where he died - intent on savage revenge.

Hopefully he'll have better luck with his adaptation of Jack Ketchum's OFF SEASON, though I seriously doubt that film can get past the MPAA without being gutted. Is Red still on OFF SEASON?

Too bad, I was one of the people who had actually wanted to go see this in theatres, seeming how I loved Bad Moon. Meh, at least I'll still get to see it, I guess.
