Source:Universal Home Video
February 13, 2009

Now that the rights for Army of Darkness have reverted back to Universal (from Anchor Bay Entertainment), its home video division has announced a Blu-Ray "Screwhead Edition" for May 19th. Special features will include the alternate ending, deleted scenes, The Men Behind the Army featurette, extra footage, theatrical trailer and audio commentary with director Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Ivan Raimi. Exclusive to Blu-Ray: My Scenes, BD-Live and the ability to access production photos during the movie experience. We'll update this spot with artwork when it arrives.

Smart move by UNIVERSAL, this release will coincide with Raimi's new film Drag Me To Hell.

dammit when are they gonna release a book of the dead version like the other two. I WANT THE SET.

Having those two and a regular dvd of army of darkness is not right.

i had a hand in making those book of the dead editions come to be...

anyways....sounds like the alternate ending is tacked on as an extra....which would be lame

just have both versions avaliable to watch on blueray...

"dammit when are they gonna release a book of the dead version like the other two. I WANT THE SET."

There would be legal problems because Universal owns Army of Darkness but none of the other movies.

I think I'll just keep my "Boomstick Edition" UNLESS this Blu-ray has both versions. Then I'll simply have to shell out money and buy this flick for the 10th time.

As for those extremely cool "Book of the Dead Editions"..... I feel almost cheated for buying them, as they are slowly, but surely disintegrating on one of my DVD shelves. Any hints on keeping them well-preserved mez?

I feel cheated to. I bought the first Book of the Dead edition and while it looks cool it only has the bogus widescreen version that crops vauable info from to top and bottom of the screen. Besides my VHS I had to buy the Ultimate Edition to get it fullframe the way it was intended. It is extremly lame how Anchor Bay has re-re-re-re-re-re-released the Evil Dead films to screw there customers.

vault master - keep them out of the sunlight...

if they already are disintegrating all you can do is stop the effect were it is and then repair them which would be costly and more trouble than just buying a new set.

they should have made them out of rubber. but that would have cost more..

ill probably just keep my boomstick edition as well..

Good thing I don't have a BluRay player... I say "good thing" because I would have to buy AoD all over again. :-/

And, I just bought My Name Is Bruce too, my Raimi/Campbell works reserved space is gettin pretty full.
