Does Diablo Cody Believe in Breathers?
Source:Production Weekly
February 13, 2009

Diablo Cody may be producing an adaptation of the upcoming novel "Breathers: A Zombie's Lament." According to Production Weekly, the Jennifer's Body scribe is shepherding the project with screenwriter Geoff LaTulippe tackling S.G. Browne's source material.

Here's a synopsis from Publisher's Weekly: Andy Warner reanimates after the car accident that kills his wife, but is too mangled from his injuries to talk. He lives in his parents' wine cellar, occasionally attending a zombie support group and struggling to rejoin a society that offers the undead no rights, bans them from working and doesn't even punish those who destroy them. When Andy and his fellow zombies—notably Rita, a sexy suicide victim with a lipstick fetish, and Jerry, a Playboy-obsessed stoner—learn why they're so driven to consume human flesh, the repercussions are both tragic and hilarious. Browne neatly mixes humor and extreme violence with a surprisingly tender love story, some witty social satire and an extremely strong narrative voice.

It's unknown where Cody is developing "Breathers."

This sounds like a really cool premise. I can't wait to see it.

Been there, seen/read that. There are too many zombie movies by now and the zombie is quickly becoming as annoyingly ubiquitous as the vampires. Be it zero budget splatterfests trying to recreate Fulci magic on a $50 budget on a weekend or oh so clever post-modern genre deconstructions such as this proposed flick... My response to both is yawning disinterest.
